Active Directory Management for higher education

[MUSIC PLAYING] My name is Kerri-Quaan Stewart. My role is Identity and Access Control Manager at Barry University. Barry University is located in Miami Shores, Florida-- beautiful sunshine, of course. It was founded in 1940 by the Adrian Dominican Sisters of Michigan. It offers a liberal arts curriculum focusing on undergrad, graduate and doctoral programs. Some of the security risks and concerns that Barry University has is concerning sensitive data and access to sensitive data. So just like any other business, we are a higher ed institution that contains a lot you know of student information related to people coming in of all walks of life who want to have federal work-study, financial aid, et cetera. So the situation which prompted Barry University to look for an AD management system is that our Active Directory administrators, our system administrators, they're the ones who had access directly to Active Directory and because we needed to have a new team of people coming in to manage user accounts and assist with the identity lifecycle management process, Active Roles seem to fit the bill. Before Active Roles, we had help desk-related issues to assist our users which are faculty, staff, and students in assisting them for password resets. At the time, they really didn't have an interface to work with. But Active Roles was able to provide that interface and segmented access for them for that group of administrators within IT so that it could take the burden off of our system administrators, who had to interface only with Active Directory. We find Active Roles very useful, specifically from my perspective in terms of looking at and monitoring what's happening in our AD environment for our users and groups. For other areas within IT-- like say, for instance, our IT support desk representatives-- if they need to assist a user with a self-service password reset or for them to have direct interface access to see what's in our AD related to users and groups as well, they can see it. For our endpoint device managers, they can look at list of computers. And whether they be servers, whatever is in our environment, they can interface to Active Roles and see that information. Active Roles is even able to have scheduled tasks set up for us to have our groups provisioned. It's a very flexible platform. So whatever the business need is, it can satisfy the customer and the business. If there was another university that had some pain points in administering their Active Directory using native AD tools, Active Roles would be the best, would be a very good solution for them. You can set how you want specific users, user classification groups to be treated within the environment. You can extend it by adding different levels of customization through code and scripts if you so choose. You can designate specific OU rights, organizational unit rights, within Active Roles for specific users who need to assist end users as needed. It will give you a much better interface into AD. It gives you searchable options, filterable options, and even an export feature which is very valuable. Once you're in it on a daily basis-- [MUSIC PLAYING] --the day you lose access to it, you'll be, what's happening? It's a very beneficial tool, definitely.
